Mosquitoes
  • Adult mosquitoes are slender, long-legged two-winged insects. They undergo complete metamorphosis with 4 successive stages of development; eggs, larva, pupa and adult mosquitoes. The first 3 stages are aquatic while the adult is an active flying insect. Depending on the species of mosquito and environmental conditions such as temperature, light & food presence, the whole development from egg to adult takes around 7-14 days. The female mosquito has a long proboscis (mouthparts) for piercing and sucking blood while the proboscis of the male ones are not suitable for piercing as they feed on nectar or other plant juices. Female mosquitos require a blood meal in order for them to lay fertile eggs. They are attracted to their hosts by temperature, odor from sweat, carbon dioxide and moisture.

  • Treatment
    Water Based Fogging & Misting
The control of diseases vectors and nuisance insects such as mosquitoes, black flies, houseflies, and sand flies is an important part of any public health program. Big Pest Pte Ltd has a range of equipment available that is suitable for Adulticiding (controlling the flying adults) situations. Diesel-Based Fogging is widely practiced for mosquito control traditionally within the pest control industry. To address your concerns of experiencing thick cloud of smoke and unpleasant diesel smell generated by the diesel-based fogging, Big Pest Pte Ltd is please to introduce Water-Based Fogging/Misting solution to manage your mosquito problems.

  • Larvaciding
Actellic® is an organophosphate insecticide which controls a wide range of public health pests, including mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, fleas, ants and other crawling insects. Insects are killed by contact, ingestion and fumigant action. It is equally effective on those insects resistant to organochlorine and some organophosphate chemicals such as Malathion. Actellic® has been successfully evaluated by the WHO pesticide Evaluation Scheme (WHOPES) as a mosquito larvicide, space spray and as a residual spray for malaria vector control.
Rodents
  • Rats and mice are very successful in their survival capabilities and adaptability in our environment. They are not only feared for their destruction to human properties such as household items, equipment, wires and cables by their constant gnawing but also the transmission of many human diseases such as plague, leptospirosis, murine typhus, rat-bite fever and salmonellosis. The best way to prevent a rodent infestation and contact with rodents is to remove the food sources, water, and items that provide shelter for rodents.

  • Treatment
Visual inspection will be conducted to identify tell-tale signs such as presence of droppings, burrows, gnawing (bite marks), runways, rub marks and potential harborage areas. Seal up holes inside and outside the premises to prevent entry by rodents. Deploying of rodent trapping device such as odorless glue boards and door-drop cages will help reduce the population. Preventive and monitoring measures will be taken by placing Rodenticide baits in tamper proof boxes at strategic locations.
Common Ants
  • Keep the premises clean, especially the kitchen, as ants get attracted by food sources. Cover attracting substance tightly and clean the furniture surface. Sweep the floor after meals, even little messes can attract ants. Don’t allow moisture to accommodate on counters and other surfaces as ants keep looking for water wherever they can find it and stay near its sources.

  • Treatment
Inspection will be conducted to determine possible entry/exit points, nesting area and affected areas. Preventive application of residual insecticides is carried out at external areas, surrounding premises to act as a barrier treatment. The use of gel baits is recommended in sensitive areas, such as food preparation, storage and health care facilities.
Cockroaches
  • Preventive measures are the key to successful control. It is easier to prevent a cockroach invasion than to control an established population. The success of preventive measures requires care, Planning and sustained effort. Cleanliness in the home and elimination of favorable breeding sites, Proper sanitation of both indoors and outdoors effectively limits cockroach populations.

  • Treatment
Inspection will be conducted to determine possible harborage and nesting areas. Application of residual insecticides is carried out at external areas, surrounding premises, gully traps. The use of gel baits is recommended in sensitive areas, such as food preparation, storage and health care facilities.
Subterranean Termites
  • Termites, primarily subterranean species cause a great amount of damage to structures than many other natural or man–made catastrophes. These insects live in large subterranean colonies and constantly forage for their primary food source, wood. Termites require both moisture and wood (cellulose) to survive, and any accumulation of moisture and wood around a structure will attract and sustain them.

  • Treatment
An inspection of the premises will be carried out to detect any subterranean termite activities above ground. All wooden structures such as doors and window frames, wooden wall panel, etc. will be inspected. Areas those are potentially conducive for termites, i.e. areas of leakages, humidity that caused by stacking of books, carton boxes, etc. will be highlighted in our job sheet and made known to you. Spot treatment via termiticide dust will be carried out in the event of active subterranean termites found during the inspection.

  • Housekeeping Recommendations:
Spot Treatment alone for subterranean termites is not sufficient. Good housekeeping practices need to be adopted. These include the following:
    • Items are recommended to be stored inside plastic containers instead of carton boxes which are cellulose-based (Food source for termites).   • Leakages found within the premises should be rectified as soon as possible to deny termites and other pest activity for water source.
•Seal cracks in your foundation, patio, steps or masonry siding.
    •Ventilate humid crawl spaces.
